School holidays are now behind us, and with them the usual seasonal lull in auction activity. The calm reflected the calendar, not the conditions, with many buyers and sellers taking the opportunity to travel, either interstate to warmer climates or overseas. Despite the break, engagement did not disappear. Across the group, we conducted close to 300 open-for-inspections over the period, and attendance held up well given the timing.
The Mornington Peninsula told a different story, as it often does at this time of year. Even in the depths of winter, the region typically sees a rise in activity during the school holidays, as not every Melburnian heads north or abroad. Many choose to holiday within the state, and the Peninsula benefits directly from that pattern. We saw solid attendance at opens across the region, along with encouraging sales activity throughout the period.
With the holidays now over, attention shifts back to the auction calendar in earnest. We expect activity to build steadily over the coming weeks as buyers and sellers return to a more typical rhythm. This return also marks the point where planning for spring steps up a gear. Preparation for the August and September market is already well underway across our offices in both Metro and Peninsula, and vendors considering a spring campaign should start those conversations now.
The quieter period behind us was not a sign of a slowing market, simply a seasonal pause. With the holidays over and spring on the horizon, we expect the weeks ahead to see significant increases in both activity and interest.
