1. You were invited to collaborate with Porter’s Paints on the Colour you can feel campaign. What excited you most about interpreting their distinctive emotive colour palette through your own artistic lens?
What excited me most was the opportunity to explore colour as something deeply emotional and instinctive, rather than simply something we see. Porter’s Paints’ extensive colour palette has always appealed to me as an artist. I’ve always been drawn to the way their colours can evoke a feeling, memory or atmosphere almost instantly.
2. You created more than 70 miniature works for the campaign. How did you approach each individual scene?
Creating more than 70 miniature works was an incredibly intimate process, with each scene becoming its own small emotional world. Working with the Porter’s team, I immersed myself in each colour, exploring its tone and harmony, but also what it made me feel and the memories or atmosphere it evoked. I loved allowing the colour itself to become almost another character.
3. Were there particular Porter’s Paints colours that immediately evoked a certain mood, memory or feeling for you?
Chinese Firecracker and Baby Doll were two that particularly resonated. The child in oversized heels brings forth memories of carefree times and self-discovery, while the trumpet player radiates energy and passion, reminding me of the powerful emotions music can evoke.
4. How did working with Porter’s Paints’ palette influence or challenge the way you typically approach colour?
Working with Porter’s Paints’ palette encouraged me to slow down and engage with colour differently. I don’t often work on such a small scale, so creating miniature works on actual branded colour cards was both a challenge and an opportunity to be more considered and intimate with colour.
5. What did this collaboration reveal about how colour influences our experience of art and interiors?
This collaboration revealed just how profoundly colour can shape the way we experience the world around us. A thoughtfully selected wall colour can make a space feel warm and intimate, calm, energised or nostalgic. It reminded me that art and interiors are not simply things we look at, but environments we feel.
