Since his beginnings in real estate over 25 years ago, Marshall White Director and Auctioneer Damian O’Sullivan has maintained the same perspective on the real estate industry.

‘To every vendor, their home is their pride and joy,’ he says. ‘It’s a fact you can never lose sight of, and as an agent, you have to have a genuine desire to do the best possible job every single time.’

That level of trust from his clients is essential to Damian’s approach to business. As a lifelong Boroondara resident, Damian works across Boroondara, Port Phillip and Stonnington, placing him in a unique position to take clients on their property journey throughout their entire lives.

‘Port Phillip typically consists of young mums and dads, either pre-children or sometimes with one or two very young children, who come to the area to take advantage of the village lifestyle,’ he explains.

‘Then when the children grow up a little, they tend to move over to Stonnington or Boroondara for the proximity to schools and the space. Then when those same parents become empty nesters, they often return to areas like Albert Park and Middle Park.’

Damian currently resides in Kew with his wife Caroline and their four children. ‘The schooling and the family lifestyle is what really stands out to us about the area,’ he says. ‘It’s also very easy to move around inner city Melbourne, which is handy for us.’

With a large, active family, living somewhere with the ability to accommodate all of their diverse needs is crucial. ‘My wife runs her catering business, Catered, from home, as well as her lifestyle brand Kitty & Co, so when we’re busy, we’re really busy,’ he laughs.

‘So having a home with a sense of warmth was really important to us. When you’re raising four children, you have to have a space where you can relax and go with the flow, not somewhere that’s more of a museum than a home.’

Damian was drawn to real estate from a young age. ‘My brother was in commercial real estate, which kind of led me into residential real estate, even though they’re very different endeavours’ he says.

‘I fell in love with real estate straight away. I loved the freedom it gave me, and the emotion involved with buying and selling people’s homes.’

‘Buying or selling a home can really bring people genuine joy. And when we achieve an exceptional result for a vendor, it can make an enormous difference to their entire lives.’

Damian, alongside Kaine Lanyon and Oliver Bruce, started with Marshall White in 2010, forming Marshall White Port Phillip. Ten years in, the appeal of Marshall White has remained the same.

‘The values of everyone at Marshall White, and the way they take care of both their clients and everyone in the team has always stood out to me, as it’s pretty unique in this industry,’ he says. ‘From day one, it’s always been all about the people.’
