Few brands can claim a century of relevance. Fewer still can point to a philosophy that has stayed the same since day one. For Bang & Olufsen, that philosophy has always been simple: technology should move people, not just function for them.

Founded in 1925 by Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen in a farmhouse in Struer, Denmark, the company began with a single invention, the Eliminator, which allowed battery-powered radios to run on mains electricity. It was a practical solution, but it pointed to something bigger: a belief that innovation and artistry could, and should, go hand in hand.
A hundred years on, that conviction has produced some of the most recognised objects in audio-visual design. The sculptural Beovision 1 television. The iconic Beogram 4000 turntable. The Beolab 90 speaker, which adapts sound to both space and the listener. Each became a reference point not just for performance, but for what technology could look and feel like inside a home.
To mark its centenary, Bang & Olufsen has unveiled the Centenary Programme, a year-long celebration that looks both backward and forward. The Recreated Classics initiative restores heritage products such as the Beogram 4000 and Beosound 9000, remanufacturing them with original components, upgraded technology and modern connectivity. These are not reproductions. They are existing pieces with decades of history behind them, reimagined for contemporary living while keeping the craftsmanship that made them iconic.
The Atelier programme takes a different approach, offering bespoke finishes, unique personalisation and extremely limited editions of current products. The latest release, the Beolab 90 Titan Edition, turns ownership into something personal, reflecting both the client's taste and the brand's dedication to craft.
Sustainability runs through the centenary message with equal weight. Bang & Olufsen's Beosound Level became the world's first Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze speaker, and nine new products now carry the same certification. For a brand built on longevity, the idea that products should be loved, repaired and passed on feels less like a modern initiative and more like a founding value.
The Centenary Programme extends well beyond the product. A year-long programme of global events and exhibitions will take place across Copenhagen, Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul, New York, London and Paris. A book chronicling 100 years of design and innovation will follow, alongside exclusive tours of the brand's birthplace in Struer and curated collections of accessories celebrating its design heritage.
"The next century of beautiful sound begins today." says CEO Kristian Teär. For a brand that has spent a hundred years showing that the extraordinary lasts, this is a statement worth taking seriously.
