Deepdene may be the most exclusive suburb you’ve never heard of.

Nestled between Balwyn and Kew, it was formerly a neighbourhood within the suburb of Balwyn until April 2010, when it was officially recognised as a bounded locality by the Office of Geographic Names. But don’t let that fool you – Deepdene is an area steeped in history and tradition. With sweeping, tree-lined streets and grand, established homes, the area oozes prestige. Boasting a boutique shopping strip, its own tennis club and access to some of the state’s best primary and secondary schools, Deepdene is one of Melbourne’s best-kept secrets.

Despite its intimate size, locals are well-catered for, particularly when visiting The Providore. Effortlessly combining contemporary lunch and brunch with traditional Asian fare, the menu is rich and diverse – it’s sure to please any palate. When ordering, it’s hard to go past the goodlife bowl, lamb croquettes or the braised pork belly and yam. Local tip: head in for Happy Hour between 2pm and 3:30pm to snare a beer and chips for just $10, and a seat outdoors to soak up the sun.

The fully licensed venue serves up some of Melbourne’s best Italian-style pizzas, fired in an impressive three-tonne oven imported directly from Naples. With a choice of indoor or outdoor dining, as well as take away options, Postino is sure to quickly become a firm favourite favoured by the whole family.

Housed within a sprawling setting, Town and Country is a mecca for indoor and outdoor home needs. Indoors you’ll find a carefully curated collection of homeware to kitchenware, soft furnishings, kids’ items and more. Outside is a gardener’s delight, with a fully stocked nursery and garden supplies section. Once you have made your way through the extensive range on offer, refuel or unwind in the adjacent café, which serves delicious coffee and a modern brunch menu. With all of this on offer, it is little wonder Town and Country is a local institution.
