We spoke with Hayley Worley, founder of Sheet Society, about how a gap in the bedding market sparked a bold idea. From fashion-led designs to natural fibres and a customer-first approach, Hayley shares the journey behind the brand that’s changing the way we make our beds — and why retail expansion is just the beginning.

What sparked the idea for Sheet Society back in 2017? Was there a specific moment that inspired you?
Back in 2017, it was obvious that the bedding market was missing a high-quality, trend-led product. When I was shopping for bed sheets, it never felt like I could find what I wanted. I had an extensive background in product design and thought, “Well, why don’t I try to create something?” We had a unique focus on creating bedding made only from natural fibres, sold in separates so customers could mix, match, and take only what they need.
What does a typical product development cycle look like from concept to customer?
Every season starts with listening - to data, feedback, and, most importantly, to our customers. We dig into what worked (and what didn’t) from previous ranges, gather insights from our team, and use all of that to guide what comes next. Then, it’s time to get creative. We explore trends, dive into what’s been inspiring us, and build mood boards to shape a vision that feels fresh and true to our brand.
From there, we develop a seasonal theme and product story, align on key styles, and work closely with suppliers to source the right materials. We always keep an eye out for sustainable and innovative options. Samples are made, tested (and even slept in), and refined through multiple rounds until everything meets our standards. Then it’s all about finalising the details and ensuring quality every step of the way. Once everything’s checked and approved, the range is ready to land where it really matters — with our customer.
How does your background in fashion influence the design and marketing of your bedding products?
Coming from a background in fashion has shaped the way we create our products. We pride ourselves on offering fashion for the bed, drawing inspiration from the latest trends, colours, and patterns that inspire us and resonate with what’s happening in the market — both here in Australia and internationally.
What’s your best advice for choosing the right bedding when it comes to colour, texture, and creating a cohesive bedroom look?
