Roughin’ It Challenge: Our Team’s Journey

News & Insights
Team Marshall White has lifted their game in response to this year’s Roughin’ It Challenge with a group of Directors raising more than $16,500 to help support vulnerable people who may be experiencing homelessness.

The Challenge, which is to spend at least 24 hours with no bed, one bag of belongings and just $10 in cash, is an initiative of Launch Housing designed to put a spotlight on homelessness – a reality faced by almost 2,000 Melbournians every day.

Last week, a group of Hawthorn directors spent an uncomfortable night camped out in the basement of the Hawthorn office. Kathy Malcolm, Nikki Van Gulick, Duane Wolowiec, Nick Franzmann and James Tostevin all rolled out their sleeping bags for the challenge.

“It was definitely hard but it was great to be able to do something for people who aren’t doing as well as us,” Kathy said.

Marshall White Directors who took part in the Challenge included Paul Gregory, Nicholas Brooks, Paula Matlock, Brad Cooper, Matt Pillios, Andrew Hayne, Simon Jovanovic, Olive Bruce, Anthony Wiseman, Barb Gregory, James Redfern, Dan Wheeler, James McCormack, Steph de Medici, James Connell, Jack Bongiorno, William Chen and Joanna Nairn.

The Marshall White Foundation will also be joining in by announcing their own fundraising initiative, doubling donations to Launch Housing during May.

Launch Housing’s ethos is that housing is a basic human right and that everyone deserves a place to call home. The funds raised by the Roughin’ It Challenge and also through donations through the Marshall White Foundation will help Launch Housing end homelessness in Melbourne by building 300 homes and changing 300 families’ lives.

Thanks to a generous partnership with Marshall White Foundation, the impact of your gift will double. So your $30 will turn into $60! But you must give by 1st of June or before matched funds run out… whichever comes first.*

*Your donation will be doubled by Marshall White Foundation up to $100,000 if you give before 1st of June 2021.
