Brighton East

Live Like a Local

Brighton East is beautiful bayside living at its best. This suburb is beloved by professionals, celebrities and families alike, with access to beaches, greenery, shopping, prestigious public and private schools, and walking trails all on offer. It’s perhaps best known for its magnificent parks, most notably Dendy Park, which is one of Victoria’s 10 biggest parks and outdoor recreation areas. There’s also Hurlingham Park and Landcox Park, as well as a public golf course. With a short commute to the city, and a stone’s throw away from Brighton, Elwood and St Kilda, it’s no wonder residents adore life in Brighton East.

Many locals take pride in their health and fitness, and there’s plenty to inspire a commitment to wellness. You could try Lady Green, a cafe with an ethical approach to food that’s interwoven with the fun and flavour of Cali-Mex cuisine. There’s free-range eggs, hand-sourced local produce and plant-based options for vegetarians and vegans all on offer, with a side-serving of playfulness – demonstrating that you can be healthy without taking yourself too seriously.

For those with a sweet tooth, Rawlove Superfoods creates hedonistic desserts, cakes, and slices that your body will actually thank you for. Everything Rawlove prepares is organic, raw and vegan, with each item bursting with nutrient-rich superfoods. Indulge in their famous and guilt-free mint slice or choose from one of the varied cheesecake options on offer. Go on, we dare you.

If you’re looking to tend to the spirit as well as the body, Warrior One is a must-visit. Hosting over 55 classes a week, led by affable, approachable teachers, Warrior One is deserving of its title as one of the bayside’s most beloved yoga studios. Their newly completed studio is light and airy and comes with a specialty, sun-drenched meditation deck. An awe-inducing crystal platform dominates the main studio room, while soft timbers and earthy tones prevail throughout. With an authentic approach to yoga and a warm atmosphere, you’ll instantly be welcomed in as part of the community.

This suburb is not only relaxed in atmosphere but relaxed in style, with locals sporting the distinct casual-chic fashion that’s synonymous with the city’s beach-side areas. The Resort Store is partly to thank for this. A boutique clothing store founded in 2016 by Sarah Reynolds, she draws upon “a lot of years” in the fashion industry to curate exquisite lines of seasonal stock and fashion mainstays. Unsurprisingly, her efforts are appreciated by the locals, with her emphasis on minimal fuss but maximum impact.

This relaxed style extends itself to Brighton East’s home, with a number of eclectic and bohemian homewares stores in the area. Kasbah is one of them, and is a local institution. Originally known for its exquisite Moroccan imports, the range has more recently grown to include unique and interesting pieces from India and Indonesia. Stunning Moroccan tiles, elegant leather furniture, and a vast array of gifts and homewares are just some of the beautiful items on offer in this stylish store. You’ll spot them within the suburb’s most beautiful homes.

When it comes to real estate in Brighton East, there’s a lot to love. There’s the “Golden Triangle” pocket of the suburb, which is an exclusive area that’s enjoyed by the fortunate few. Peppered with Edwardian, mid-century and art deco homes, Brighton East is slowly beginning to fill with daring, contemporary designs that maximise the larger sized blocks that are common to the area. While it’s still lesser-known than its sister suburb of Brighton, Brighton East offers buyers a Bayside jewel south of the river.
