With an established sense of luxury and a distinguished elegant style, Christopher Doyle Architects have cemented their place as one of Melbourne’s finest architectural firms specialising in residential design. We caught up with Christopher Doyle to delve into what inspires his work.
Doyle’s designs embody an enduring quality and recognisable sophistication that merges classic with contemporary. In his own words, Doyle’s designs ‘have a timeless quality on the outside’. He likes ‘things that feel antique, feel old, get old, things that last a long time’. Doyle embraces what could be phrased the test of time with lasting and versatile concepts, whereby the striking facades of his projects are identifiable and leave a lasting impression.
Having acquired a predominantly Toorak-based clientele, Doyle is careful yet innovative in creating structures that compliment a locale with such iconic character. ‘You might say there’s more value to contribute to that theme rather than to go against the grain. We try to work on architectural themes and variations for houses that could potentially have existed already in Toorak… to contribute to the narrative of the architectural language that already exists there. For us that’s exciting to show people you can still build in a way which is sympathetic and has great integrity in terms of buildings sitting side by side’.
Ensuring that each building is tailored to its immediate environment and surrounds as well as to the requirements of the client, Doyle approaches each project with a bespoke vision. ‘Each client will bring something of themselves to the project. We aren’t looking to do heroic one-off signature buildings, we are very much drawn to what clients are trying to achieve through the project. It’s a collaboration’. It’s this collaborative approach that sees Doyle’s reputation continue to flourish.
Marshall White has been fortunate to feature several homes designed by Christopher Doyle Architects over the years. Some of our most recent highlights include 13 Tashinny Road, Toorak (1) and 2 Clendon Court, Toorak (2).
