A long-time resident of the area, the Marshall White director adores the lifestyle, convenience and natural beauty of Brighton. From running along the beachfront, to long lazy Sunday brunches with friends and family, Kate makes the most of life on the water. We sat down with Kate to find out what makes her home special and get her top Brighton recommendations.

Marshall White: For you, Kate, what makes a house a home?

Kate Strickland:  A house is four walls and a ceiling but it’s who lives in it with you that makes it a home.

MW: How would you describe your home?

KS: Every time I drive into my driveway I pinch myself. I feel so lucky to call this beautiful place, home! Our home is contemporary yet inviting; it’s modern yet warm; it’s perfect for entertaining and it is incredibly easy to live in. We find ourselves using the entire home and we just love it from top to bottom!

MW: And what is your favorite part of your home?

KS: The position of our property is almost as good as the home itself. I love that we can hear the sky divers landing on the park at the end of our street and stroll down to Jerrys Milkbar for a morning coffee or a Sunday brunch. The open-plan living and family room is fantastic for entertaining and the north-facing deck is perfect for a BBQ or reading a book in the sun!

MW: What are your favorite Bayside spots to unwind or grab a bite to eat?

KS: The iconic Jerry’s Milkbar is just 30 meters from our front door and has quickly become our regular coffee and brunch spot. On weekends, we like to walk to Ormond road to shop at Leaf or have a nice meal at Dandelion. Vibrant Acland Street is another favourite of ours, offering a wide selection of eating and shopping options. For special occasions, the award winning Stokehouse is also within walking distance.

MW: What makes living in Bayside so appealing?

KS: I have always loved being around water, so my home’s proximity to the ocean is a soul feeder for me. Bayside delivers an unmatched lifestyle made up of sunset walks, picnics in the park and meditation sessions on the rocks looking out over the entire coastline. It truly is a place which combines convenience and world-class dining with natural beauty and a relaxing atmosphere.
