Agents & Their Spaces:
After almost 25 years in real estate, we caught up with our lovely Boroondara Director Duane Wolowiec who shared what he loves about living and working in his local community…
Being involved in his local community has always been an important part of the job for Boroondara Director Duane Wolowiec. After almost 25 years in real estate, and 17 of those with Marshall White, the long-time Boroondara resident shares what he loves about living and working in this leafy neck-of-the-woods.
“I really enjoy living in the area that I work in. I get the opportunity to meet a lot of fantastic people who are either looking to move here to be close to all the first-class amenities such as public transport and many of Melbourne’s popular public and private schools, and others who want to stay local and are either looking to upgrade to a larger home or downsize,” said Duane.
Schooling options have always been an important factor for Duane and his wife Annette who live in the city of Boroondara with their three kids, Brianna, 21, Alyssa, 19, and 16-year-old Nicholas.
“We are all very involved locally – obviously through the kids’ schools and sport and through living and working in Boroondara for the past 17 years,” Duane said.
“From a real estate perspective, the attraction for many is the family friendly environment, a great blend of beautiful period homes with some lovely modern style properties in between, quality school zones, surrounded by parks and tree-lined streets and with an excellent choice of cafes, restaurants and shopping.”
Supporting other local businesses is paramount to the Marshall White success story and Duane certainly takes this on board, speaking from his favourite café, Marci in Hawthorn, located directly across the road, from Marshall White Boroondara’s Glenferrie Road office.
“It not only has great coffee, but the owners have a great attitude to business. Marci’s owner Marcus and his staff are very personable and always make you feel welcome which makes it a positive start to the day. Marci has a great range of healthy choices for lunch which is fantastic as I need to lose some unwanted Covid kilos gained during lockdown!”
Outside of work, to keep fit, Duane is an avid cyclist who enjoys regular rides with his friends and has taken part in the 130-kilometre Alpine Classic.
“My favourite local place on the bike is around Kew Boulevard, it’s a lovely, hilly terrain, beautiful landscapes and has fantastic city views and only moments away from home.”
Duane also enjoyed the lockdown downtime to walk around the neighbourhood streets, parks and trails with Annette and the kids.
“Lockdown allowed us to discover so much more about the area. By walking along the streets, you usually drive down, you see more detail and take more in. You notice houses you haven’t noticed before. You run into people, friends, neighbours, many of them former clients, and you have time to stop and have a chat.”
“Before COVID, as agents, we never really had that chance to stop, slow down and be in the moment. It was always go go go! It has been a forced slowdown– but for me, it allowed me to take a deep breath and appreciate things more.”
One thing Duane has learned to appreciate more is his local Boroondara area.
“I definitely feel like it is a safe and healthy environment to raise the kids and Annette and I feel very fortunate to have been able to do so here in Boroondara.”
