There Is No Set Path for A Career in Real Estate
It goes without saying that Marshall White’s talented team of Directors are on the look-out for Melbourne’s best properties to list – but not many realise they are constantly on the look-out for talented people to join their teams.
It goes without saying that Marshall White’s talented Directors are on the look-out for Melbourne’s best properties to list – but not many realise they are also constantly on the look-out for talented people to join their teams and the good news is that many of their future team members are already right under their noses.
A growing number of Marshall White’s rising stars began their Real Estate Careers working on reception, administration roles or in other departments of the premium property group’s busy network of six offices.
Honing their administration, organisational, and above all, excellent people skills in a real estate industry setting, it often becomes quite quickly apparent that the team member may be suited for career progression within the company.
Michelle Armstrong, Head of People & Culture said that usually the decision to move from reception or administration to another area of the business occurs as a result of a mutual realisation between the team member and a Director or Manager with whom they may deal with daily.
“Our reception and admin team work across all facets of the business and after a while they often recognize that they could in fact be ideally suited to another area of the business. Likewise, our Directors, Partners and Managers are regularly in contact with reception and admin, and often they can identify a potential team member to join their team.
“Kierra Hagedorn, Partner, is a great story. Her process-driven approach, innate attention to detail and genuine care for each person she encountered on the Reception desk caught the eye of Director James Tostevin, who invited her to join his team as an Executive Assistant. Before long she transitioned into Project Sales and is now an integral part of Australia’s top performing real estate team and is well and truly on the career path to be a Director one day,” Michelle said.
“Ross Hams commenced his career with Marshall White in Residential Sales but realised his natural talents once he joined our Project Sales team. Ross’ outstanding results and achievements were recognised and rewarded cementing his career path to Director.”
Marketing Analyst Maddie Douglas and Leasing Consultant Issy Coughlan share similar stories. Both began their careers as valued members of the reception team which they saw as the ideal opportunity to learn all aspects of the business while building relationships.
Michelle said that joining the Marshall White team in any capacity is a great first step for anyone, regardless of their background, looking to carve out a successful career in real estate.
“Maddie is now a key player in our Marketing Team and is responsible for a wide range of internal and external communications and social media management, while Issy’s fantastic communications skills and compassionate nature made her a natural fit as a leasing consultant. She has an innate ability to build strong relationships with all her clients which is so important in this industry.”
