Australian furniture design is making its mark internationally and Melbourne is home to some of the best-known masters of their craft.
Here are a few of the characters helping to build a great Australian design movement.
The restless nature of Ross Didier’s design practice has produced collections more varied than any other Australian furniture designer. However, it is the consistent focus on ingenious and often groundbreaking engineering that has assured his enduring appeal and commercial respect. The Didier design studio creates and manufactures in Melbourne and offers beautiful lounge, living and dining furniture and lighting.
Mim is Founder and Principal Interior Designer at the award-winning multi-disciplinary practice Mim Design. Her keen eye for detail, straight forward approach and ability to create interiors that showcase understated wow-factor, have made her Melbourne’s go-to interior designer. Her recent work for Hunter&Co Deli in Elsternwick has attracted international attention and her interior design of The Grace (represented by Marshall White), has attracted high praise.
In only five years, Thibaud and Claudio have taken the design world by storm as owners of the DENFAIR design exhibition. This carefully curated event highlights and mixes Australian manufacturers and brands from around the world. The show is a must-see for architects and designers, plus one of the few trade events to invite the design passionate public. Stylist Lucy Feagins, launched The Design Files in 2008 and the site has arguably become Australia’s most popular design blog. Lucy has a talent for identifying design talent early and has become a force of support and promotion of Australian design. What started as a design obsessed hobby has turned into a successful business and Feagin’s hard work and commitment to quality has produced a world-class publication.
Wendy’s beaming energy and warm smile has graced many successful photoshoots for Australia’s best-known brands. As a stylist, she draws on her training in fine art and her 20 years experience in photography styling for advertising and editorial print work plus television commercials. She also produces limited edition scarves under her brand TAXIDI. These are digitally printed on fine Italian Modal Cashmere.
Held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in South Wharf, on Saturday 22nd June the DENFAIR fair is open for the public to experience direct access to exclusive furniture, lighting and creative solutions.
