From elegant tree-lined streets to beautifully curated boutiques, Armadale is Melbourne’s picture perfect suburb. Only 10kms from the city, it’s a leafy haven, a magnet for families wanting to be close to some of Melbourne’s best schools, and a delightful destination for visitors seeking the perfect brunch or the latest fashion.
Armadale is anchored by one of Australia’s premiere shopping strips, High Street, which is a Mecca for the very finest fashion labels, day spas, cafes, gourmet grocers, wine stores and of course bridal boutiques. If you’re on the lookout for the perfect cup of coffee, try Coin Laundry, Moby, Mammoth or Grapeseed. Need some “me time”, try Willow Urban Retreat or maybe get your carb fix at Phillipa’s Bakery. Whatever activity you choose, you’re sure to find yourself enchanted.
Strolling beyond High Street along the streets and boulevards of Armadale reveals a magnificent array of properties from Federation and Victorian classics to ultra-modern mansions. Armadale hosts some of Melbourne’s finest homes with excellent examples of Victorian, Federation and Edwardian architecture. Contemporary luxury is often blended with beautiful period features in many homes of distinction.
One of Armadale’s most famous heritage sites is Armadale House, built for Scottish-born businessman and the fifteenth Premier of Victoria, James Munro. The house is a relatively modest example of a boom era brick and stucco Italianate mansion. Munro is known to have named the property after Armadale in Southerland, Scotland and this is how the suburb may have received its name.
Families gravitate to Armadale to be close to schools such as Lauriston Girls School, The King David School and Armadale Primary School. In addition the wide open spaces and parks are perfect for unwinding, taking the dog for a walk or keeping fit. The Armadale Reserve offers quality off-lead time with your pooch, the Union Gardens provide beautiful tranquility while the Malvern Tennis Centre is close at hand for those more energetic types.
