Can you give a summary of your experience in real estate and property management?
With close to ten years of experience in the real estate industry, I began my career as a receptionist in a boutique agency in Clifton Hill and quickly moved into property management. As part of a small team, I was exposed to all facets of the property management industry. Eager to increase my knowledge and experience, I sought to move to a larger more established agency in the area. In no time at all I was managing my own portfolio of properties and when the time came to further develop my skill set I moved to Marshall White. Almost five years later, I am now a team leader for the Hawthorn office.
What do you do in your job? What do you love about it and what do you find challenging?
I am fortunate to manage properties in one of the most sought after pockets of Melbourne, including some of the oldest and most beautiful homes in our city. This satisfies my passion for interior design and serves as a creative outlet. In property management, no two days are the same and I enjoy working with my clients in order to achieve their desired results whilst offering advice, troubleshooting, managing relationships and implementing processes to ensure a home is well maintained over an extended period of time. Even after ten years, I am constantly adapting and learning in a dynamic industry. I love the people I work with; they all bring their unique qualities and skills to the team.
What’s been the most rewarding aspect? Can you give a scenario or tell us a story?
Every day I go home both amazed and satisfied with how much I have managed to achieve. The most rewarding aspect for me is successfully matching a tenant to a property and landlord. When these components come together and all parties are satisfied with their experience through Marshall White, the relationship remains extremely positive moving forward.
You are originally from South Australia, what inspired your move to Melbourne?
With a keen interest in the fashion industry, I knew I would need to relocate to either Melbourne or Sydney in order to expose myself to the best opportunities. When I was offered a job in Melbourne following a merchandising role I had undertaken in New Zealand, I seized the opportunity.
I am now so grateful that I moved to Melbourne, as it has subsequently lead me to my career in real estate.
What are your personal thoughts on the 2018 property market for landlords and tenants? Are there any trends you have observed?
The rental market here in Boroondara is relatively consistent. There are many of the best schools in Melbourne along with all necessary amenities including transport, shopping precincts, restaurants and cafes. These factors drive rental return to a premium and as a result we are achieving some amazing results for our clients. More recently we have noticed that high quality and prestigious properties are being leased in a very quick time frame.

What sort of value does a property manager add to a landlord? Why are they essential?
A property manager provides an in depth knowledge and understanding of the Residential Tenancy Act and all relevant processes and timeframes associated with a wide array of scenarios. Having access to the necessary systems and the most up to date information means we are best positioned to implement the correct practice in order to ensure our clients investments are managed to the highest standard. Regular inspections and educated advice also ensures their investment property has the opportunity to maximise its rental return over a period time.
How do you facilitate a seamless relationship between landlord and tenant?
I have found that in most circumstances, communication is integral to ensure a positive result. Transparency and honesty ensures that all parties feel considered and will often point us in the direction of a mutually acceptable outcome. Although it might sound simple, communication is key to ensure we maintain long lasting and happy relationship with our clients.
What makes a good home and what does the idea of home mean to you?
A good home should meet practical requirements, but also provide a haven or escape from the fast pace of day to day life, especially if you live in a big city. Being a property manager, I believe it’s important to keep a home well maintained, clean and tidy. On a personal note, and being a creative at heart, I love to see lots of cushions in a home. Cushions add colour and texture and always make the property feel warm and homely.
What are your favourite local cafes or stores?
My favourite local cafe in Hawthorn is called Marci. They do a great coffee to kick-start the day and the most delicious home-made soups. They are conveniently located just across the road from our office, which is handy on busy working days.
