One of the most prestigious suburbs in Melbourne, Kew is located five kilometres east of Melbourne’s CBD. With its prime inner-city location and family-friendly feel, it’s easy to understand why the picturesque suburb is in such high demand.
Recognised as a safe and friendly suburb with abundant community spirit, Kew is bordered by the Yarra River to the west and north, with Hawthorn to the south and Balwyn to the east. Award winning Marshall White partner and auctioneer Davide Lettieri has proudly operated in the area for over a decade. ‘I love the diversity of people that live and work in the area, from professional couples to families to retirees, it is a great mix of all types of demographics,’ says Davide.
Renowned for grand homes in wide tree lined streets, some of the most exceptional examples of Edwardian, Victorian and contemporary architecture in the city can be found in the Sackville Ward, bounded by Bakers, Burke, Cotham and Glenferrie Roads. ‘What sets Kew apart from other areas of Melbourne is the vast array of home styles ranging from early c1900 Victorian and Edwardian residences, to c1930’s Californian Bungalows, to c1950-1960’s designed homes in the Studley Park area and then the modern properties built within the last five to ten years. There is so much choice in the suburb,’ says Davide.
“Kew is a desirable suburb for those wanting to be close enough to the city to be convenient, yet far enough away to get out of the hustle and bustle of closer suburbs.”
Some of the best private schools in the country are located in the suburb, including Xavier College, Trinity Grammar, Ruyton Girls’ School, Methodist Ladies’ College, Carey Baptist Grammar and Genazzano FCJ College. ‘The biggest driver [for people moving] into Kew is without a doubt the private schooling selection it has for families, this really underpins the suburbs strong growth each year. If you want to be within a stone’s throw of some of Melbourne’s best schools for your children, Kew is the suburb to be buying in,’ says Davide.
Convenient access to public facilities and transport are also desirable traits of the area with hospitals, museums, retail and dining options throughout. ‘Kew Junction is a major drawcard with easy access to trams and buses. It is also home to some of the best shops, restaurants and cafes in Boroondara,’ says Davide.
With a wealth of established parks and trails around the Yarra River, Kew is a desirable suburb for those wanting to be close enough to the city to be convenient, yet far enough away to get out of the hustle and bustle of closer suburbs.
