City Escape: A weekend in the Picturesque Mornington Peninsula

“A leisurely trip through the region will quickly reveal the magical old-world charm of this sought-after destination.”

With rugged costal vistas, world class dining and pristine protected swimming bays in abundance, it is no wonder that the Mornington Peninsula has become a favourite destination for Melbournians escaping the hustle and bustle of the city. A leisurely trip through the region will quickly reveal the magical old-world charm of this sought-after destination.

A short 90-minute drive from Melbourne, the Peninsula is perfect for a reinvigorating day trip or a relaxing weekend of pampering. We have carefully curated a list of some of our favourite Peninsula gems to help you plan a trip which is the perfect combination of luxurious relaxation, fine dining and natural beauty.

Explore

Discover one of the Peninsula’s many secluded beaches. In Blairgowrie, the bay at the end of St Johns Wood Road is a local favourite, delivering spectacular views and a natural diving pool. Go for a gentle stroll along the cliffs and take a refreshing dip in the sparkling turquoise water.

For an afternoon of art and alfresco dining, spend a couple of hours at Montalto wandering along the sculpture trail, taking in the 30 permanent sculptures which are sensitively sited throughout the grounds. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, sit down to an opulent picnic and a glass of award winning wine, carefully prepared by the Montalto team.

Wine and dine

With a backdrop of sweeping coastal and vineyard views, Port Phillip Estate is a must do for exceptional dining and highly acclaimed wines.

One of the newest additions to the Penisula restaurant scene, Rare Hare is a fantastic spot to enjoy a casual wine tasting. Alternatively, guided tastings in the barrel room are also available.

Stay overnight

As the latest luxury offering to make its mark on the region, the Jackalope Hotel, is a bold reimaginination of high-end accommodation born out of collaborations with some of the world’s principal designers. Round off your stay with an indulgent spa treatment and a swim in the breath-taking infinity pool.
