We sat down with them to gain an insight into what is currently going on in the finance market and find out what they love most about living in Melbourne.
Marshall White: What are your personal thoughts on the 2017/18 property market?
Jamie King: High quality property, which is built well and located in the right area will continue to sell at a great price. If your property falls outside of these criteria it may require a minor price correction to move.
Scott Ewen: The property market remains strong. People are planning for the future, with property realised as their major focus, particularly given the population growth expected over the next decade.
MW: Can you tell us a little bit about the investment market and trends in Melbourne’s inner east?
JK: There is no better place to purchase a quality property investment then in Melbourne’s inner east, especially on a long-term growth strategy. Property investment is still a significant wealth creation strategy for many Australians looking to create great capital growth and take advantage of the tax benefits on offer.
MW: What trends are you are currently observing in the finance/lending market?
JK: The big trend I have observed recently is a change in bank loyalty. Customers are no longer staying with the big four banks out of loyalty. They are prepared to test the market and see what other deals are out there. The best means to do this is through a financial consultant/broker with 60% – 65% of Australian mortgages now being written by mortgage brokers, like Marshall White Finance. This is significantly different to the market we observed only five to ten years ago.
Harry Bongiorno: We are currently observing restrictions in interest-only mortgage lending. In addition, as a result of a number of internal and external factors, the investment lending appetite of banks is constantly changing.
SE: In addition to these trends there has been a deterioration in service levels and expertise in banks as well as an increase in the appetite for offering competitive lending rates to investors.

MW: What does home ownership mean to you?
JK: Home to me is a place where you go to relax and enjoy your family, so having ownership of that is particularly important because it allows you to shape that dream/reality into what it needs to be.
HB: To me, home ownership forms the basis of personal wealth and security and provides a stable environment in which to raise a family.
MW: Tell us a little bit about your own home and the area that you live in and what makes it special to you.
HB: I am currently living in Brighton, which is the perfect distance from the City. Close enough to offer a convenient lifestyle and just far enough from the hustle and bustle to easily switch off and relax. It is also a gateway to beautiful walks along the beach, cycling on beach road and other various activities.
MW: If you had a friend visiting from overseas and you had a day to show them around Melbourne, where would you take them?
JK: I would take them for a magic or piccolo with brunch in one of Melbourne’s great cafés. Next, we’d check out an awesome exhibition at the NGV followed by a drink at the Liu Bar and early dinner in the city. Then off to the ‘G for a cracking game of footy!
HB: We would walk through the Royal Botanic Gardens in the morning followed by breakfast at Gilson. After exploring our unique City’s laneways, we’d head to Chin Chin for lunch. We’d then hire bikes and ride down the Yarra River all the way to St Kilda to see Luna Park and Acland St, then into Pontoon (Stokehouse) for a drink to watch the sunset.
MW: What is your favourite Australian holiday destination?
JK: As soon as I drive into Byron Bay I feel relaxed…absolutely love the place!
HB: By far the Great Barrier Reef. I’m a bit of a water boy and love being out in the open, living off fresh fish and being in the warm sun.
