What’s On: School Holidays

Melbourne is the home of icy delights this season. Federation Square provides the city with an ice skating rink with a picturesque backdrop of city views.

As we approach the July school holidays, Melbourne has been busy transforming into a winter wonderland of activities to entertain all.

Outdoor activities:

Melbourne is the home of icy delights this season. Federation Square provides the city with an ice skating rink with a picturesque backdrop of city views. An excellent outing for families, Melbourne City’s River Rink promises daily fun until the 17th of July. Want to keep the adrenaline pumping? A short walk along Melbourne’s Southbank promises a bigger and better return of Eureka Skydeck’s famed four-metre-tall ice slide. Locals and visitors alike are welcome to grab an inflatable tube, channel their competitive spirit and race a friend down the icy slopes.

Music:
It appears that some of the best experiences in life truly are free. If you’re beginning to feel like your iTunes playlist could use a bit of a revamp and your child could afford to listen to someone other than Justin Bieber, look no further than Fed Square Live. Presenting five free concerts over the coming weeks, ACMI and Federation Square have created a series of both established acts and emerging local artists to liven up these chilly evenings.

“We highly recommend heading to The NGV to view the amazing works presented here each year.”

Art:
Celebrating the VCE works of exceptionally gifted young artists whose artworks range from sculpture to media, along with a display of developmental work, the 2017 Top Arts exhibition is bound to inspire even the most novice artists. We highly recommend heading to The NGV to view the amazing works presented here each year. If your kids are nearing VCE years, they might even find the inspiration to present their own work here.

Food:
Indulge your sweet tooth at the annual Sweet Expo held at Melbourne Showgrounds from July 22-23. Showcasing over 90 stalls of chocolatiers, pop-up bakeries and ice-creameries, this is one event worth skipping breakfast for. Take your taste buds on a sugary journey and learn about the latest techniques and crazes taking the world of confectionary by storm.
